Cheesecloth Portrait

Once you've learned the fundamentals of creating with cheesecloth, the next step is a simple portrait. This second workshop will show you how to create a portrait using my easy-to-follow pattern for values and following the step-by-step approach to my unique method of "painting" with cheesecloth.
By playing with values, and utilizing transparency and opacity, you will learn how to create an effective portrait using plain cheesecloth over a black fabric background.

Working from a simple photo - the first one that I used when pioneering this method - you will explore new application techniques and learn the basic skills required to create stunning portraits out of cheesecloth. I've got you covered every step of the way, with easy-to-follow instructions and videos to show you exactly how I achieve dramatic effects in my fiber portraits.

Attempts to duplicate my results by using fusibles and layers of cheesecloth - a time-consuming, fiddly process - result in a very static portrait. My signature method involves smoothing the cheesecloth so it mimics the movement of actual human skin. It's like painting with fabric! Then simply machine appliqué it to a background fabric. I will show you several possible approaches to finishing and displaying your completed portrait.
