This workshop is a super simple introduction to how easily cheesecloth can be used in fiber art. And it's three lessons in one!
First, learn to colour your cheesecloth at home. I'll show you some easy ways to use paints, inks or dyes to create a whole stash of colored cheesecloth. But you can always leave it white for a moonlit image, to be stitched to a dramatic dark background. Lots of possibilities shown in the lessons.
Then learn my easy tips for shaping cheesecloth fibres to portray any number of textures, following a very simple pattern. The detailed videos walk you through every step of sculpting cheesecloth, showing you the tools and tricks to master this technique.
You will want to make more than one windswept pine, because each one will look completely different. By changing the colors of the tree, the sky, or the rocks, you can create an entirely different mood. Make one and you'll see how easy it is!
Finally, to create a beautiful home for your windswept pine, you have a few options.
You can use Neocolor II crayons, following my step-by-step images. These are one of my favorite paints for fabric - fun and easy, and they give the effect of a watercolor painting.
Or use commercial fabrics, fusing or appliqueing the rocks and lake over a sky. And several finishing options are discussed, from quilting to attaching to a stretched canvas.
